In a globalized and highly competitive environment, the internationalization of small enterprises in the agricultural sector in Monteria - Colombia faces múltiple challenges. Despite economic growth in countries such as the United States, Germany and Japan, tariff and non-tariff barriers make it difficult for Colombian agricultural products to access new markets. This work was carried out using a descriptive methodology with a quantitative approach in a field study of microenterprises in the sector. A typology of the topic was carried out, which provides us with a map of needs for projecting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises towards international markets. The competitiveness of local is impacted by the obligation to comply with international quality standards and certifications required by developed markets. The pressure for environmental and social sustainability is an additional challenge to the process of internationalization.
