Abstract

The objective of this research is in the discussion of the influence of the incorporation of an Energy Management System (EMS) as a factor of shared value in Mexican companies. The methodology is qualitative,  based on the compilation  of business information and Mexican energy legislation, to show the panorama that Mexico has on this issue, channeling  it as a concept  of comparative  value coined by Porter and Kramer (2011). As a result, in Mexico there is a small number of companies certified under ISO 50001: 2011, which indicates that there is no opening, probably because of a lack of normative motivation to promote the implementation of the EMS and the lack of knowledge  as  an  opportunity  to  create  shared value. The main limitation that is experienced is the lack of in-depth information on how entrepreneurs perceive the implementation of a EMS in their organization.
