Abstract

It is essential for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to have a faculty that has  a high organizational commitment. So, it is important that managers of public HEIs have information that allows them to develop  strategies  to encourage teacher´s commitment  in a  public  HEIs environment, and  in this way influence quality outcomes for professionals who are serving the community.

This paper analyzes how both demographic  and recruitment factors have impact on the dimensions that make  up the organizational commitment. The study was based on a sample of 89 public university professors  in the metropolitan area of Laja-Bajio, México.

We used  an adapted instrument from Meyer and Allen (1997) construct. Main results show that only affective commitment is influenced by age and the faculty recruitment, without finding influence in the rest of the variables or another dimension.
