Cement company strategies: From eco-efficiency to sustainability

Abstract

Among the various subjects that concern the issue of sustainability, climate change mitigation has taken center stage. The cement industry has been distinguished by its guild organization to address the problem. The aim of the article is to present the changes in management strategy of the major cement companies with operations in Mexico, following the international pressure they have to be sustainable. For this, a documentary research was carried out based on the reports of sustainable development  of the cement companies in the 1997 to 2011 period. In the results, it was found that companies transited from eco-efficiency processes to comprehensive strategies with sustainable approach, which led to changes in their organizational structures.
