Abstract

In this research, the main objective is to optimize the test of federal opacity, iteratively applying the method of rapid ascent; this test is performed in the Laboratory of Vehicle Emissions and engine test section diesel emissions in the Mexican Institute of Oil. This research is a case study, where a Four-phase Method is used to analyze the process, using the  Six  Sigma  methodology. The  analyzed test is the last of the four tests performed in the Diesel Emissions Laboratory to determine the emissions of a diesel engine or additive. The results provide a better understanding of the functioning and influence of the factors that have impact on the test, either directly or indirectly. This allow us to establish recommendations to improve the performance of indicators of this test.
