This study explored the created and inherited resources of indigenous tourism destinations in southeastern Mexico. This allowed for the segmentation of destinations according to their similarities in resources. The measurement scale was adapted using the destination competitiveness model, as it shows the core resources with tourism value of a destination that provide long-term benefits. Surveys were administered to 300 local residents of indigenous communities who provide tourism-related services. The data processing consisted of internal consistency analysis and 2 phases. The first was a hierarchical cluster analysis that identified 2 segments of created and inherited resources that indigenous tourist destinations possess. The second segment covers destinations that manage resources to provide tourist activities. The results of this study contribute to the measurement of the core resources of a destination, which allows for the analysis of determinants of the competitiveness of indigenous tourism destinations in future research.
