The main purpose of this research is to describe University Social Responsibility (RSU) according to its conceptualization in the literature. The dimensions of University Social Responsibility, its subdimensions, the application in institutional development plans and the relationship between university social responsibility and competitiveness in higher education institutions are analyzed. This work carries out a systematic review of the literature, analyzing its main authors. Likewise, it is explained that this work corresponds to a first stage of a broader research project where a second stage is intended to determine the strategic management of university social responsibility and its relationship with the academic competitiveness of higher education institutions. applying a methodology with a quantitative approach and primary and secondary data, collaborating with researchers from other institutions in Mexico and Latin America. The results obtained confirm what is stipulated in the literature review, where it is verified that university social responsibility is related to the competitiveness of higher education institutions in a positive way, which indicates the guideline for HEIs to carry out an adequate management of social responsibility for the benefit of their development and competitiveness.
